Ethics and the history of ethical thought is a field of study that explores the right and wrong of actions and the laws of human relations, as well as the principles of the most pressing issues in contemporary society. The distinctive feature of the Department of Ethics is its approach to these issues based on the reading of classical texts and study of the history of ideas.

Courses taught: Lectures provide an overview of the history of Western ethics and explain basic concepts and issues in ethics. He is also in charge of seminars on the reading of original texts of contemporary philosophy.
 

Yosuke BANDO (Associate Professor), Ethics, History of Japanese Ethical Thought

Research fields: Japanese Confucianism, Shintoism, and Bushidō
Courses taught: Lectures provide an overview of the history of Japanese ethical thought from ancient times to the modern era and examine various issues in the history of Japanese ethical thought. He is also in charge of seminars on the reading of original texts and classics of Japanese ethical thought.
