Islamic Studies refers to the empirical study of the culture, thought, religion, and literature of the Islamicate world, primarily through literature. Understanding the ideas and cultures derived from Islam, which has a history of more than 1,400 years and a community estimated at 2 billion people, is an urgent issue for Japan. Our department aims to train people and researchers who can contribute to an accurate understanding of Islamicate civilization by giving them basic academic training and helping them acquire relevant languages such as Arabic.
