Admission

Overview

The entrance examination for the master's and doctorate courses are normally carried out in January every year as per the guidelines for applicants to the Graduate School of Humanities and Sociology, University of Tokyo.

We warmly welcome international students to join our department – thus far we have accepted students from a variety of countries including Singapore, China, Korea, Taiwan, France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Canada, Israel, and Brazil.

As our teaching is primarily conducted in Japanese and as per the guidelines for entry into the Graduate School of Humanities and Sociology, you are required to have Japanese language proficiency equivalent to the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N1 level. You will be required to submit a photocopy of your JLPT Test N1 certificate or a recommendation letter from your Japanese language (or Japanese Studies) teacher as part of the application documents.

For details of admission, please refer to the relevant website of the Graduate School of Humanities and Sociology (only available in Japanese).
