Research Area
Social Psychology, Cultural Psychology
1) Culture, Cognition, and Emotion
Given that individuals participate in various cultural practices throughout their daily lives, my research addresses the extent to which psychological processes, particularly cognition and emotional perception, are influenced by these practices.
2) Cultural Maintenance and Change
Participation in cultural practices within a given culture serves to maintain and, at times, transform not only the practices themselves but also the dominant values of that culture. My research examines this topic by adopting a gene-culture coevolution and interaction perspective and by focusing on the role of cultural products.
Based on the understanding that culture and the individual are inextricably linked, I have explored the social and cultural dependencies of the mind from a broad perspective. I believe that understanding cultural differences in cognition and emotional perception can contribute to various practical fields of growing importance, such as intercultural communication and cross-cultural acceptance.
