Research Areas

Sociology of health and illness, Welfare Sociology

1) Sociology of dementia care, critical dementia studies

Focusing on the history of dementia care practices, this project attempts to describe and evaluate the understanding of dementia and the dynamics of exclusion and inclusion of people with dementia in Japanese society.

2) Research on the experiences of women within the haemophilia community

In collaboration with haemophilia patient associations and drug-induced HIV victims' associations, the study identifies the experiences of women as carers of haemophilia patients and haemophilia carriers.

3) Theoretical examination of the sociology of health, illness and disability

While conducting several empirical studies myself, I am working with researchers working on other subjects to develop a sociological theoretical framework for describing and analysing health, illness and disability.
