1) Group Dynamics
2) Culture and Mind
Yukiko Muramoto undertakes studies on group dynamics and cultural psychology, focusing on the mechanisms through which the individual mind and social environment are mutually shaped. She is particularly interested in how group norms and cultures are formed and maintained over time.
Her primary research interests include:
- The process of formation and maintenance of group norms through "pluralistic ignorance"
- Social environmental factors as determinants of cross-cultural differences in individuals’ minds
- Socio-ecological and historical bases of cultural practices shared by people in the community
- Issues related to organizational culture and workplace climate
She addresses these research questions by conducting small-group experiments in the laboratory to observe micro-chains of behavior and by carrying out fieldwork to track ongoing changes in beliefs and practices that are shared within social settings.
