Russian and Soviet Literature
1) Soviet Literature
Hiramatsu conducts research on the literary works of Socialist Realism, the official culture of the Stalin era, focusing on aspects such as subject formation, body representation, and censorship. She also discusses the monistic revolutionary culture of early Soviet Union prior to the establishment of Socialist Realism, evolution of Soviet literature after Stalin's death, and information technology aspects of the works of dissident writer Aleksander Solzhenitsyn.
2) Dostoevsky
She examines Dostoevsky's works in relation to Russia's modernization, particularly the transformation of institutions such as currency, law, and censorship during the Great Reforms.
3) Memory Studies
Hiramatsu discusses the cultural memory of Soviet-era violence in contemporary Russia.
