Western Classical Studies

1) Roman Love Elegy

Research on the love elegy of Propertius, Tibullus, and Ovid, with particular focus on the poetic theories embedded within their works.

2) Pastoral Literature

Comparative research on Virgil’s Eclogues and Hellenistic literature.

3) Depictions of Visual Art in Literary Works

Research on ekphrasis (the literary representation of a work of visual art), tracing the development of descriptive techniques in literary history, which began with the depiction of Achilles’ shield in Book 18 of the Iliad.

4) Oral Epic Poetry Research

Research on the formation, distribution, compilation, and transcription processes of Homeric epics.

5) Reception of Western Classics in Italian Literature

Study of the relationships between Boccaccio and Tacitus, Petrarch and Propertius, and Tasso and Virgil.
