Bldg. 3 library

Please return books to the counter during opening hours. When closed, please put books in the Drop Box.
Bldg. 3 Lib materials can be returned to all of the University of Tokyo libraries.

Do not return directly to the bookshelf. Otherwise, it will remain on loan. For books bound in Japanese-style, damaged books, large-sized books, and material belonging to other departments, please return them directly to the counter during opening hours. Please do not put them in the Drop BOX.     

Bldg. 2 library

Please return books to the counter during opening hours. Please put books in the Drop BOX when the library is closed.

For books bound in Japanese-style, damaged books, large-sized books, and material belonging to other departments, please do not put them in the Drop BOX, but bring them directly to the counter.

Photocopying  self-service 

* You may photocopy materials within the limits set by the copyright law. If you wish to copy a doctoral thesis in full, you must obtain the consent of the author.
* Requests to photocopy books・journals may be declined based on judgments made by departments.
* As a general rule, photocopying of rare books is forbidden. Even in cases where it is possible, the use of electronic copiers is not allowed
* You can buy copy cards from the vending machine in bldg. 3 library, bldg. 2 library and at the faculty of letters photocopy center (faculty of law and letters bldg. 2 B1F)
* You cannot use digital cameras or any other photographic equipments to copy materials.

2) Using other libraries in the university faculties/institutions

 

Loans

Please bring your student card, staff card or user card for affiliated libraries. Please see here for the terms and conditions regarding the reference and loan of books from other libraries in the university faculties/institutions.

 

Faculty of law department

(Closed for a long period of time, but part of dept. is available for use)

Please read books inside our library. You cannot take books home. Graduate students who do not return books on the day of loan, please leave them at the counter of faculty of letters bldg. 3 library.  

East Asian Cultural Research Center

*Chinese classics・microfilm materials : You will need a library loan certificate, which is issued by the faculty of letters bldg. 3 library. Assistants and assistant professors or above can request up to 10 loan certificates. Please bring the blue paper of the library loan certificate to the counter after use.  

*Others : You do not need a library loan certificate. Assistants and assistant professors or above can borrow books.

*For books marked as [Possible for loans within the university] on OPAC : You do not need a library loan certificate. Full-time teaching staff and staff members (including part-time lecturers and researchers, excluding part-time staff members) and students can borrow books. Condition of loans available: 3 books for 3 weeks.  

 

Applying / reserving orders for photocopies ・PDF

You can order copies・PDF and reference material from other departments within the university.

You can place orders directly with the libraries through OPAC and My OPAC.

(For copies, you can also order at bldg. 3 library counter.)

※You must submit an application to order copies・PDF. For details, please refer to MyOpac reference material order service.

※There are cases where orders cannot be placed within the same campus, even when the [Copies] button is shown.

※Orders of material are limited to those from other campuses (except Yayoi campus). As a general rule, orders from within Hongo campus are not available. 

※The reservation period for material is 1 week from the day on which the notification email indicating availability has been sent to the applicant. 

 

Please take note of the following points when submitting applications:

※For applications at the bldg. 3 library counter, please bring your student card, staff card or user card of affiliated libraries. 

※Please ensure that you have written down the NACSIS-ID(NCID). 

※When applying for copies of articles published in foreign journals, before doing so, please check if the electric journal is accessible. Please use the electronic journal if possible.

3) Using institutions outside of the university premises 

 

Visiting the library   

We issue collection lists and letters of introductions for other universities and institutions. (Reception is open until 16:30) Please take note of the following points when applying.

*In many cases, it is necessary to contact institutions in advance of your visit. Please come to the counter in good time to arrange your date of visit.   

*If you are a graduate student or above and wish to use the libraries of national universities, you do not need a letter of introduction. You can have access to their books with your staff card or student card.

*Please check OPAC in advance and bring the printed version.

Please take note of the following points regarding application;

  • ・Please bring your staff card・student card.
  • Please ensure that you have written down the NACSIS-ID(NCID).
  • ・As a general rule, we do not accept orders on material held at the University of Tokyo. However, it is possible to request these materials if you cannot access them because they are on loan or are missing. Please note this detail on the application form if necessary.
  • ・Payment from private expenses (the amount billed by the applied institution) should be made through ATM bank transfers. For loans, it may be necessary to purchase postage stamps for returning the books 

    

*For loans, please also take note of the following points: 

  • 1 book can be ordered per application. For example, ordering two-volume books would amount to 2 applications.
  • ・Please take good care of books as they are owned by the university and affiliated institution. Furthermore, if you are late in returning books, your further use of the system may be restricted. If you damage or lose the books you have borrowed, we may ask for compensation and will not accept your further applications for loans.
