Research Area
Early modern and modern history of China
1) History of fiscal and monetary policies in early modern and modern China
One of my research themes is the financial system of China. In early-modern and modern period, China has governed a vast territory which has significant differences in tax revenue and expenses. My research focuses on methods for financially integrating these diverse areas, specifically through cash remittance systems.
2) Border trade and border control in the northwestern parts of China.
Northwestern China borders Russia, Central Asia, and India, and in this region historically there has been complex movements of people, goods, and capital. Since the modern era, the establishment of national borders has brought these movements under state control. My research focuses on trade, finance, and state control in this region during the early modern and modern periods.
