Japanese Ancient History
1) Funeral Rites and the Ritsu-ryo statutes
My first subject of study was funeral rites and mourning in ancient Japan. I analyzed the Ritsu-ryo Statutes on Mourning and Burial in comparison with classic Chinese books of rites and the equivalent statutes of the Tang period.
2) Comparative History of Culture with China and Korea
My latest interest is in the comparative history of East Asian Culture. My research focuses on ancient Japanese epitaphs, ritual culture, and gender history, especially through comparative studies with China and Korea
