Research Area
(1) Comparative Literary Research
My main research is modern and contemporary Japanese literature. I have formerly conducted comparative research of Franz Kafka and Abe Kobo, focusing on the passivity of the feeling of entrapment of their different characters.
(2) Study in Travel Literature
I have been focusing on the re-reading of modern Japanese travel writing, mainly covering postwar authors such as Abe Kobo, Kaiko Takeshi and Shimao Toshio. While these authors are most remembered for their fiction, they tried their hand at different genres of non-fiction as well, which have been largely forgotten nowadays. I am attempting to re-evaluate especially their travel writing and see how it correlates with their fictional worlds.
