Research Areas
Moden Japanese History
1) Political and Social History after the Russo-Japanese War
The purpose of my research is to clarify the relationship between the modern Japanese state system and the society encompassed with extremely diverse demands. In particular, the research focuses on the period following the Russo-Japanese War, when extremely large amounts of money were spent on the war, resulting in economic exhaustion and social upheaval in Japan.
2) Congressional Petition System in Modern Japan
The specific focus of the research is on the operational process of the petition system in modern Japan. While focusing on the multilayered nature of the political actors that influenced the way the system operated and the friction that arose between the parliamentary petition system and the existing system of local self-government, we aim to understand the process of transformation of the relationship between the state system and society from multiple perspectives and in a dynamic manner.
3) History of the University of Tokyo
In the University's 150-year History Compilation Office, I am engaged in planning, collecting, analyzing, and organizing historical materials for the publication of the University of Tokyo's 150th History.
