Research Area
Northeast Asian Archaeology
Field Archaeology, History of Human Adaptation, Ancient Ethnic Cultures of the Far East.
The objective of this research project is to reconstruct the prehistoric cultures of Siberia, the Russian Far East, and the Japanese archipelago from a long-term perspective of human-environmental adaptation in the period following the Last Glacial. The research targets include the northern harsh cold regions and border regions where sufficient field surveys have not yet been conducted. By elucidating the distinctive local histories of each area through the continued practice of archaeological excavation, we aim to approach the historical dynamism of Northeast Asia from a framework that differs from that of national history.
