Research Area

1) clinical ethics

In order to realize medical care centered on each patient and long-term care service user, we have explored ethical ways of thinking and practicing various issues in clinical settings, including decision-making support, through exchanges with medical and care professionals, and returning the knowledge to society.

2) death and life studies in clinical settings

We have conducted research on the needs of people in the final stages of life and their families, working with medical and care professionals, to apply research findings to medical and care practices. To give back to society the knowledge of clinical ethics and death and life studies, we hold "Death and Life Studies Seminars," workshops and symposiums for medical and care professionals.

3) medical sociology

Focusing on various issues related to end-of-life such as brain death and life-sustaining treatment including artificial hydration and nutrition, mechanical ventilation and dialysis, we have worked to clarify research questions related to medical care using social science methods.
