Modern history of China

1) Social and political history of modern Chinses cities

My research is centered on the political and social history of Chinese cities, with a particular focus on the history of Tianjin. I have sought to illustrate the formation of modern urban society in relation to a number of issues, including popular movements and nationalism.

2) Intelectal history of modern China

My research interests lie in the history of modern Chinese thought, with a special focus on ideas that transcend the boundaries of nationalism in pursuit of universal civilization and ideals.
