Research Areas
Japanese Medieval History
1) Research on the Kamakura Period
I conduct research on the Kamakura period, focusing on the Kamakura shogunate. In particular, I examine the organization of the shogunate, its military system, and its relationship with the imperial court.
2) Research on the Northern and Southern Dynasties Period
I study the Northern and Southern Dynasties period, centered on the Muromachi shogunate, with a particular emphasis on the impact of the Northern and Southern Dynasties civil war on politics and society.
3) Paleography
I aim to analyze and systematize the ancient documents exchanged in medieval Japanese society, especially focusing on those exchanged among warriors, nobles, and other feudal lords, investigating the nature of the communication facilitated by these documents.
4) Research on the Estate System
I conduct research on the estate system during the Kamakura and Northern and Southern Dynasties periods, paying special attention to how this system was reorganized under military tensions such as the establishment of military governments (the Kamakura and Muromachi shogunates), the Mongol invasions, and the civil wars during the Northern and Southern Dynasties period.
