Research Areas

Modern and Contemporary Japanese Literature

1) Junichiro Tanizaki

Research in this field focuses on the activities of the writer Junichiro Tanizaki after 1945. Tanizaki’s novels and essays published post-World War II are analyzed, considering the legal systems, social customs, and urban planning of the era, with the goal of reevaluating his works from the perspective of their critical engagement with postwar society.

2) Cultural Theory of the Occupation Period

Yoshida is also interested in the debates over urban reconstruction and cultural policy in the Kansai region during the Occupation period. This research focuses on comparing the perspectives of Kansai-based writers, including Tanizaki, on reconstruction and culture during the Occupation with contemporary discussions. This is achieved by investigating and gathering information from magazines and newspapers published in Kansai.
