The Department of South European Languages and Literatures Studies will be renamed “The Department of Italian Language and Literature” in April 2025. The history of literature written in Italian, a language derived from Latin, is approaching 1,000 years. It is one of the oldest currents in European literature. Poetry being the dominant genre in Italian, its study is central to the study of Italian literature, although it is also necessary to explore the history of Italian prose. Although we are a small department, we are active in exchanges with researchers in Europe, including Italy, and the United States, and frequently hold special lectures and symposia.
