Photographed year 1952 Size Cabinet photographic plate Plate No. of the report Komai 1959: Fig.3 Box No. 42_02 Comment Komai visited and photographed the Kamui Kotan Stone Circle in October 1952, immediately after Hiromichi Kono and Masao Mori excavated and reconstructed the site in September of that year (Kono and Mori 1952). This photograph was taken at that time. According to a later investigation by the Asahikawa City Board of Education (Asahikawa City Board of Education ed. 1990), this stone circle (Group Ⅰ) was composed of round stones, three standing stones placed in a square formation with 3 m per side and a “stone alignment zone” measuring 5 m in diameter, where the round stones were placed concentrically. -
No. KMK_02 Description Kamui Kotan Stone Circle (Kamui Kotan 5 Site), Group Ⅱ? (from the south?) Photographed year 1952? Size Cabinet photographic plate Plate No. of the report Box No. 42_01 Comment Although there is no record about this photograph, it is certain that this photograph shows a stone circle placed north of KMT_01 (Group Ⅱ) at this site (Asahikawa City Board of Education ed. 1990). According to the Asahikawa City Board of Education, Group Ⅱ was composed of an angular standing stone along the circumference with round stones inside. However, as seen in the photograph, there were no round stones.
