ⅩⅤ-2 Box No. 43_11 Comment This photograph shows a panoramic view of the site. Four stone circles remained on the farm. Stone circle No.4 can be seen on the front right side, No.2 on the left behind No.4, No.1 on the left behind No.2, and No.3 is at the back right. This photograph was taken at the start of the investigation. There are round stones stacked at the front side which seem to have collected because they were loose from the original positions when the excavation started. -

This photograph shows the students of the Karifuto Junior High School who participated in the excavation. It was taken at the same time as HKE_02 when the investigation started. -

A square-shaped pit was found under the stacked stones; each side measured approximately 1 m. Although Otoe reported this as a burial pit, no artifacts were found inside. -

There were standing stones along its circumference. According to Komai (1959), there were also stacked stones inside the standing stones, some of which can be seen in this photograph. This photograph probably has been taken during the preliminary investigation in 1950. -
No. HKE_09 Description Hokuei (Soga) Stone Circle, stone circle No.2, burial pit (from the east) Photographed year 1951 Size Cabinet photographic plate Plate No. of the report Box No. H49_014 Comment There were three flat stones under the stacked stones. The burial pit was found under the flat stones, which were rectangular with long sides of approximately 1.5 m and short sides of approximately 1.2 m, almost the same size as the circumference of the standing stones. This photograph was taken of the northwestern corner of the bottom of the pit. Two jade beads were found in the center at the bottom of this burial pit. -
No. HKE_10 Description Hokuei (Soga) Stone Circle, stone circle No.3 (from the west) Photographed year 1950 Size Cabinet photographic plate Plate No. of the report Box No. 36_03 Comment Stone circle No.3 measured approximately 1.5 m in diameter and there were standing stones along its circumference. The west side was composed of small stones and the northeastern side was placed in two rows. According to Otoe, stacked round stones were found inside the standing stones. However, it seems that these stones cannot be seen on the ground surface. This photograph probably has been taken during the preliminary investigation in 1950. -

According to Otoe, the stacked round stones were found inside the standing stones. However, it seems that these stones cannot be seen on the ground’s surface. The excavation of stone circle No.1 can be seen at the back-left side of the photograph. -
No. HKE_12 Description Hokuei (Soga) Stone Circle, stone circle No.3, excavated pottery (from the west?) Photographed year 1951 Size 35mm Plate No. of the report Box No. S2_11 Comment Otoe reported that “after removing the stacked stone measuring 20 cm in thickness, there was a piece of pottery along with some stones”. This photograph shows where and how the pottery was found. There was also a rectangular pit underneath the pottery which measured approximately 1.5 m on the longer sides and 1.2 m on the shorter sides. Two jade beads and a stone weight were found in the pit. Additionally, black fumus was found, which seemed to be a corpse. -
No. HKE_13 Description Hokuei (Soga) Stone Circle, stone circle No.4, verifying the site (from the east) Photographed year 1951 Size 35mm Plate No. of the report Komai 1959: PL. ⅩⅨ-1 ※ Box No. S2_12 Comment When Komai investigated the Hokuei (Soga) Stone Circle, stone circle No.4 was already destroyed and there were no traces of its original form. This photograph shows the site when the remains were verified. It is assumed that stone circle No.4 originally measured approximately 2 m in diameter; there was a big standing stone on the west side and there were also stacked stones on the ground. Some stacked stones remained under the surface of the ground. A burial pit was also found under the stacked stones which measured 2 m on each side. Five jade beads were found at the bottom of the burial pit.
