No. NZY_13 Description Nishizakiyama Stone Circle (Area 1), stone circle No.1 (from the west) Photographed year 1950 Size 35mm Plate No. of the report Box No. S7_19 Comment Several stones measuring approximately 30 cm were placed in a circle approximately 1 m in diameter in the stone circle No.1. Here, the stone stacks were made up of many small stones. According to the excavation report, there was a flat stone on top of the stacked stones. This photograph shows the finding of the flat stone above. -

A pit, measuring approximately 1 m deep was found under the stacked stones. No artifacts were found inside the pit and this photograph was taken before excavating the pit. -

There was also a standing stone in the southern part of the stone circle (see NZY_11). According to Otoe, broken stones were paved underneath the “slightly big flat stone.” This photograph shows how the broken stones were found. -

ⅩⅩⅣ-1 ※ Box No. 43_10 Comment This photograph shows the state after excavating several flat stones inside stone circle No.2 further than the excavation shown in NZY_16. Unfortunately, it is out of focus. A pit measuring 0.7 m deep was found under the flat stone. No artifacts were found inside the pit. Otoe points out that it is possible the big-sized stones at the back right were once standing. -
No. NZY_18 Description Nishizakiyama Stone Circle (Area 1), stone circle No.3 (from the north) Photographed year 1950 Size Cabinet photographic plate Plate No. of the report Box No. 21_03 Comment According to Otoe, stone circle No.3 was composed of short standing stones and horizontal stones which were placed like a circle measuring approximately 1.5 m in diameter. Also, there was a flat stone on the broken stones measuring 20-30 cm in length inside the stone circle. PL.23-2 in Otoe shows the state after excavating the flat stone inside the stone circle. This photograph shows the state after removing the flat stone and the broken stones underneath it. -

ⅩⅩⅤ-1 ※ Box No. 44_06 Comment This photograph shows the state after removing some of the standing stones, excavating beyond NZY_20. PL.25-1 in Otoe shows that shallow bowl pottery from the Late Jomon period was found between the paved stones; however, it cannot be seen in this photograph. There was a pit measuring approximately 1.4 m in diameter and 0.8 m deep under the paved stones. No artifacts were found in this pit. -
No. NZY_22 Description Nishizakiyama Stone Circle (Area 1), stone circle No.7, section of pit (from the northwest) Photographed year 1950 Size Cabinet photographic plate Plate No. of the report Box No. H01_006 Comment According to Otoe, stone circle No.7 was composed of “short stones” that were positioned like a circle measuring approximately 1 m in diameter. Also, there were some stones within the circle. Furthermore, a pit measuring approximately 1 m in diameter was found. This photograph shows the state of excavating the pit which was found in stone circle No.7 cross-sectionally. No artifacts were found in this pit. The stone circle in this photograph is regarded as stone circle No.7 because the wooden stake in this photograph is same as the wooden stake of No.7 photographed in NZY_10.
