The Research Group on Social Stratification and Immigration Studies (Principal
Investigator: Sawako Shirahase, Professor, Graduate School of Humanities
and Sociology, University of Tokyo), which is supported by a grant-in-aid
from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS, independent
administrative institution under the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports,
Science and Technology), conducts research on the National Survey on Life
and Work in Japan.
Social surveys have mostly been based only on Japanese residents and have
not included foreign permanent residents living in Japan, mainly because
they were not included in the residency registration. However, in this
global age, the Japanese economy is supported not only by Japanese citizens
but, also, by foreign nationals living in Japan. Therefore, as a first
step, our research group has decided to conduct a “National Survey on Life
and Work in Japan” targeting men and women with foreign citizenships residing
in Japan. We sincerely ask for your cooperation in responding to this survey.
