Comment | These artifacts were excavated together from a burial pit from the Late Jomon period to the Final Jomon period. On the right is the fragment of a lacquered tooth-type vertical comb. Only the vermillion lacquer film remains. On the left are jade beads estimated to be from the Itoigawa area of the Niigata Prefecture. These artifacts indicate that the Tokoro River Estuary Site is a part of the cultural exchange area that includes the Tohoku region, because the lacquer does not occur naturally in Hokkaido and the jade beads were mainly distributed in the Tohoku region and southern Hokkaido during this period. |
