| Comment | This type pottery spread throughout northern and eastern Hokkaido (especially the Abashiri region) during the Early to Middle Epi-Jomon period. The series of Utsunai type pottery can be subdivided into Type Ⅱa and Type Ⅱb, and the former, which is the earlier type, has a characteristic feature of small bumps running just under the top of the rim. This piece also has cord-impressions and appliqué decorations on the upper part of the body. |
