Dear ANGIS Members, Colleagues, and Students of GIS-based Historical Studies on Asia,

The Asian Network of GIS-based Historical Studies (ANGIS) in collaboration with Centre for Historical Geography, Sun Yat-sen University, is pleased to announce the Call for Papers for the 6th ANGIS Conference (ANGIS 2017) to be held on November 24-26, 2017 at Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, China.

Focusing on Asian history and aiming to promote multidisciplinary approaches in tracing spatial and temporal processes, the upcoming ANGIS Conference will continue to serve as a venue for sharing research progress in historical studies in Asia based on GIS in the fields of history, geography, heritage studies, spatial analysis and modeling, visualization, and GIS. We hope these efforts would contribute to generate new perspectives and stimulate deeper explorations in historical research.

ANGIS 2017 welcomes papers from humanity or social science fields focusing upon Asian history with the application of GIS and/or other mapping methods. Topics include economic history, urban history, migrant history, historical demography, maritime history and transportation, history of disasters and diseases, social change, historical anthropology, landscape change, environmental history, archeology, heritage conservation and other related subjects.

Please note that papers should be original works not yet submitted for publication, published, or presented elsewhere. Papers presented in the Conference could be included in forthcoming issues of the ANGIS E-journal (JANGIS) after peer review. Abstracts of 200-250 words should be submitted to hshgc@mail.sysu.edu.cn by 30 June 2017.

Conference registration fee for participants is RMB700, and we are at the moment trying our best to apply for funding to cover the cost of three nights accommodation at Sun Yat-sen University campus hotel during the conference (for those papers to be presented by more than one authors, we could provide only one accommodation).

On behalf of the ANGIS Guangzhou Organizing Committee, we look forward to both receiving your paper proposals and meeting you at the Sun Yat-sen University in November.

Yours sincerely
Convener: Dr. Shi XIE, Centre for Historical Geography, Sun Yat-sen University
Prof. I-Chu Fun, Academia Sinica, President of the ANGIS
