Entrance Examinations for Third-Year Students Entering from Other Universities and for Students with a Bachelor’s Degree

The Program in Sociology of the Faculty of Letters of the University of Tokyo calls for admissions each year from students who have already gained a bachelor’s degree. Students who have graduated a four-year university enter the third year of this Program, and as a rule graduate in two years, being awarded the degree of “Completion of the Bachelor’s Program in Sociology.”

In the Program, as well as acquiring a broad basis in contemporary sociology, students carry out specialized research and practical survey training in various fields, such as academic theory, the family, sexuality and generations, urban and local communities, industry and labor, quantification and stratification, consciousness and culture, planning and welfare, international and global, technology and the environment, and multicultural coexistence with the goal of completing a graduation thesis on their chosen theme.

In this program, students can acquire a higher and more comprehensive level of knowledge and new expertise. Thus we achieve the cultivation of excellent professionals who are able to contribute to society in a wide range of fields. In addition, the way is also open continue on to all kinds of graduate schools, including the Graduate School of Humanities and Sociology of this University.
