This journal, Ronshū, is a peer-reviewed journal in which instructors and doctoral students in the Department of Philosophy of the Graduate School of Humanities and Sociology of the University of Tokyo contribute papers and report the results of their research over the course of the year. The journal may also publish papers contributed by visiting researchers and visiting research students who have a short visit to the Department of Philosophy, or papers presented at the special lectures by foreign researchers organized by the Department of Philosophy, and other achievements recognized as research activities of the Department of Philosophy by the editorial board consisting of the instructors of the Philosophy Section.
The articles and achievements contributed by doctoral students are strictly reviewed by the editorial board members as referees to decide whether they are acceptable for publication.
The Editorial Board sincerely hopes that this journal will contribute to the promotion and development of philosophical research in Japan.

As the name of the journal suggests, this is a place to think "philosophically" about contemporary applied ethical issues. Therefore, each article is expected to be an in-depth reflection, including a comparison with traditional philosophical discussions.
In addition, the Department of Philosophy holds a "Study Group on Applied Ethics" on a regular basis to report, present, and discuss the papers mentioned in the journal. The papers published in this journal are primarily based on presentations made in this study group. It should be noted, however, that the journal undergoes a strict review process by the faculty members of the Department of Philosophy before publication, and only papers that pass the review process are published in the journal.
