この度，心理学研究室において，米国Northwestern大学のSteven Franconeri先生の講演会を開催致します。Franconeri先生は，注意やオブジェクト認知などの高次視覚に関して，近年数多くの素晴らしい研究業績をあげられている気鋭の研究者です。皆さまのご参加をお待ち申し上げております。

Flexible perception of spatial relations

アブストラクト：
There is significant work on how we recognize structure within objects and scenes that we have previously encountered. But we have strikingly little understanding of how the visual system flexibly represents spatial structure across arbitrary arrangements of objects. I will review a set of possible visual mechanisms and argue for a counterintuitive possibility—that relations across space are coded by changes in the location of the attentional 'spotlight' over time. Evidence from eyetracking, electrophysiological 'attention tracking', and behavioral methods support this account. I will then describe connections to spatial language, as well as implications of this account for improving graph comprehension and spatial reasoning.
