- TITLE:Chinese Assimilation Policy Under the Japanese Military Rule
- NOTE:in Indonesian (with interpretation)
Upon Suharto's exit on May 1998, there was an incident in which overseas Chinese in Jakarta were attacked by rioters. The overseas Chinese are often attacked during riots because they're thought to take a firm hold of the Indonesian economy. Mr. Didi Kwatananda (Ass. Prof., Waseda Univ.), himself a Chinese Indonesian, stressed the following three points concerning the contra-Chinese Policy under the Japanese Military rule:
1. how the overseas Chinese adapted to the political changes of their time;
2. what kind of policy did the Japanese take against the overseas Chinese during occupation;
3. the effects of Japanese fascism against the Chinese (especially their attitudes towards the revolution)
He also mentioned the movements surrounding the Chinese, such as the initiative to launch a Chinese political party and their attitudes towards democratization.
