As the first Joint Study Program of Unit 1, a symposium entitled "Reconstructing Afghani" will be held as follows:

Welcome Speech: Prof. Masataka TAKESHITA (Tokyo University)Session I: Afghani and Colonialism in the Middle East
(Each speaker will make a 20 minute presentation; then there will be a 40 minutes discussion.)
Session II: Rethinking Afghani
Prof. HACHIOSHI Makoto will speak on the historical significance of Afghani's philosophy within the context of the contemporary politics in the Middle East. (30 min.)Discussant: IIZUKA, Masato (15 min.)
Session III: Prospect for Studying Afghani
Prof. HACHIOSHI, Makoto will speak on the prospects for studying Afghani, and for creating an international network to promote international scholary exchange. (10 min.)Free Discussion (30 mun.)
