Symposium on Sayyid Jamal-al Din Al-Afghani

As the first Joint Study Program of Unit 1, a symposium entitled "Reconstructing Afghani" will be held as follows:

Welcome Speech: Prof. Masataka TAKESHITA (Tokyo University)

Session I: Afghani and Colonialism in the Middle East

Session II: Rethinking Afghani

Prof. HACHIOSHI Makoto will speak on the historical significance of Afghani's philosophy within the context of the contemporary politics in the Middle East. (30 min.)

Discussant: IIZUKA, Masato (15 min.)

Session III: Prospect for Studying Afghani

Prof. HACHIOSHI, Makoto will speak on the prospects for studying Afghani, and for creating an international network to promote international scholary exchange. (10 min.)
