First IAS "Open Seminar" Held!

The IAS Project has created "The Open Seminar Program" to deepen understanding of the Islamic World through lectures on current events and general issues. The first such seminar was held on February 21, 1998, at the University of Tokyo. The topic of this first undertaking was the Egyptian 'Luxor Incident' of November, 1997. Over a hundred participants attended, mostly including students and Egyptian nationals. The following lectures were conducted at the seminar:

KOSUGI Yasushi (International University of Japan)
"The Islamic Revival Movement and Contemporary Crisis"

HIRAYAMA Kentaro (Hakuo University)
"Political Terrorism in Egypt, Palestine and Lebanon"

Both lectures were highly interesting and participants listened with interest, contributing many questions afterwards.
